(Patria) - Today's scenes in Washington are unprecedented in the democratic history of the USA, analysts point out. This is the first time since 1814 that demonstrators have entered the Capitol building, the highest legislative body in the United States of America. This is precisely what has led Republicans to change their views. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, a Republican from the state of Washington, will reverse her stance on challenging the presidential election results.

"We must have a peaceful transfer of power. The only reason for my objection was to express concern that governors and courts had unilaterally changed election procedures without the will of the people and outside the legislative process. I have been consistent in my belief that Americans should use the available constitutional tools and legal processes to seek answers to their questions about the 2020 elections. What we saw today is illegal and unacceptable," McMorris Rodgers said in a statement today.

McMorris Rodgers added:

"I have decided that I will vote to support the results of the Electoral College and I urge Donald Trump to condemn and stop this madness."

Supporters of US President Donald Trump, who stormed the Capitol building on Wednesday, have left the facility.

Security forces managed to remove many demonstrators who were near the complex and set up cordons. Many representatives condemned the intrusion of Trump's supporters, stating that it was an attack on democracy.

Among them is Ilhan Omar, who commented on the events on Twitter.

"The House of Representatives should initiate impeachment proceedings against Donald J. Trump, and the US Senate should remove him. We must not allow him to remain in office. This is a matter of preserving our Republic. We must fulfill our oath," Omar wrote.

Also, the SWAT team of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) secured the building and entered Congress to prepare it for the joint session of both houses of Congress, which is traditionally a formal matter of counting the Electoral College votes, in order to officially declare the new President of the USA.

Some American media, including "CNN", reported that the Capitol building has been completely "cleared" and is safe for the continuation of the planned session, and that the joint session of the House of Representatives and the Senate is expected to be held after all.
