Le Monde also stops publishing on X

(Patria) - French daily Le Monde announced it is stopping publishing its content on platform X due to the "intensification of activism" of its boss Elon Musk, close to Donald Trump, as well as due to the "increasing toxicity when it comes to the exchange of information" on this social network.

In the newspaper's editorial, Le Monde director Jérôme Fenoglio writes:

"We have decided to double our caution and extend our attention to several other platforms, especially TikTok and Meta, following the concerning statements of Mark Zuckerberg, who is gradually approaching the positions of the new US President Donald Trump."

On the former Twitter, today's X, "the benefit of our presence there is less than the numerous side effects suffered," Fenoglio believes.

Musk bought the network in 2022 and, in Fenoglio's opinion, transformed it "into an extension of his political activity, a libertarianism increasingly close to the far right, as well as into an instrument with which he wants to put pressure on his competitors or on European social democratic governments."

This combination of ideology and commerce "only makes Le Monde increasingly invisible, as indeed most other traditional media," Fenoglio notes, emphasizing that for more than a year, publishing texts on X has been reduced strictly to a "minimum."

From now on, sharing content on that network will be suspended "as long as it functions in this way." Fenoglio also recommends this to Le Monde journalists.

In this way, Le Monde joins other media, such as the French Ouest France, Sud Ouest, Mediapart, La Voix du Nord, as well as The Guardian and La Vanguardia, which have not been publishing on X in recent months.
