Huskić: BiH needs major court cases against politicians and businessmen

Bosnian judiciary is not working properly! In BiH, we still do not have major court cases against politicians or businessmen, and this is a big problem for the country, warns Adnan Huskić, political analyst, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

- Even if we have some cases against politicians or businessmen, they are the result of some incredible incident or set of circumstances, not the result of the activities of BiH courts and prosecutor's offices. Besides, not only are there no major court cases in BiH, even if there are, they usually end with an acquittal – Huskić told NAP.

This analyst warns that one of the leading problems of Bosnia and Herzegovina is precisely that political parties largely still control the prosecutor's offices and courts of BiH. Criminogenic political elites, he says, who have been ravaging the country for years, manage to stay in power or out of the reach of prosecutor's offices precisely because they have control over them.

- Things in BiH will start to improve only when the prosecutor's offices and courts are independent. And we can achieve that only when we have evaluations of the work of judges and prosecutors. Something like that existed in former Yugoslavia, and I see no reason why it shouldn't exist now – says Huskić.

- Simply put, we must have measurable criteria on how many cases have been initiated and how they have been concluded. If we do that, then any possibility of instrumentalization, politicization of court proceedings, investigations... will cease. Then we will not have verdicts that will be overturned after a year due to procedural errors – he points out.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, says Huskić, prosecutor's offices and judiciaries are still prosecuting only less known criminals, but things in the country cannot move forward until criminogenic politicians and businessmen are also the subject of investigations, writes Patria.
