Croatia Celebrated Victory Day, Several Arrested for Singing Ustaše Songs

The Croatian state leadership today marked the 22nd anniversary of the military action Storm in Knin, during which the Croatian Army liberated occupied parts from the rebel Serbs from Krajina, reports Patria News Agency. 

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović expressed hope that Croats and Serbs will one day jointly mark the anniversary of Storm. 

- I hope that one day we will be able to jointly mark Storm as an action that ended the Greater Serbian aggression, the Greater Serbian policy which also victimized many Serbs, and who were driven from their homes precisely by their local leadership and authorities from Belgrade - the Croatian president stated.  

She added that she mourns all innocent victims and believes in a common future for everyone in Croatia. 

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković, and the daughter of a fallen Croatian defender Nikolina Mataija, in their addresses in Knin, appealed for "unity, with which Croatia in the 90s resisted a many times stronger enemy and won the Homeland War".

The Serb National Council will pay respects to the Serb victims of Storm near Knin on Sunday.

During today's celebration in Knin, there were also incidents. Several young men chanted the Ustaše salute "Za dom spremni" (Ready for the homeland) and sang Ustaše songs on the streets of Knin, so the police had to intervene and arrested them.
