CROATIA Husband kills wife then commits suicide, four children left behind

(Patria) - A new case of femicide has shaken Croatia. This is the 19th this year. A woman was killed in Bedekovčina, and police found a man near the murder scene who took his own life.

The murder occurred in a family home around 1 AM, and it involved a married couple who had four children.

The investigation determined that a 43-year-old Croatian citizen fatally shot the 39-year-old Croatian female citizen with a firearm, after which he left the scene. During the search of the area, police officers found the dead body of the 43-year-old who committed suicide with a firearm.

Four criminal charges and six misdemeanor charges for violent behavior in the family had already been filed against the 43-year-old, and one misdemeanor charge for violent behavior in the family against the 39-year-old.

"During 2023 and 2024, some family-legal protection measures were imposed on that family. After that, it was assessed that there had been some improvement, and the measures were not extended afterwards. We are cooperating with the mayor, the municipality, the police, and all competent services, and with them, we are taking all measures for the protection of the children," said Sergej Augustin Erdelja, manager of the KZŽ Service of the Croatian Institute for Social Work.
