Croatia: Two dead in accident, firefighters spent hours extracting bodies from car

Last night at 7 PM on the A1 motorway section, heading towards Split, after the Grič tunnel, a traffic accident with fatalities occurred, reports the Patria News Agency.

As reported by the police, the accident happened when a 54-year-old man from Velika Gorica, driving a car with Zagreb license plates, for currently undetermined reasons lost control of the steering wheel, veered off the road to the right, hit a metal guardrail, and stopped on the traffic lanes, after which a car with Zadar license plates, driven by a 46-year-old man from Pirovac, collided with the front of his car.

Due to the injuries sustained, the 54-year-old (driver of the car with Zagreb license plates) and a 47-year-old man from Zadar (passenger in the car with Zadar license plates) died at the scene, while the driver of the car with Zadar license plates was seriously injured and is undergoing treatment at the General Hospital in Zadar.

The cars were completely crushed, and firefighters assisted the police in extracting the bodies of the deceased from the cars. The extraction of the bodies and the cleanup of the accident site lasted for hours, writes Index.
