Croatian man wanted to earn on cryptocurrencies, lost over 7,000 euros

(Patria) - Since the value of cryptocurrencies began to rise, scams have emerged whose sole purpose is to extract as much money as possible from people who want to earn quickly.

Some are simple computer scams, while others are quite creative and sophisticated.

The Brod-Posavina Police Department warned of a scam reported by a 59-year-old man, who in mid-October contacted an unknown person who introduced themselves as a cryptocurrency trading advisor.

After paying over 200 euros to the requested account, he followed further instructions and installed an application on his mobile device.

Through the application, he enabled the perpetrator access to his device, which resulted in an unauthorized transaction via internet banking, and 6,999 euros were withdrawn from his account.

"We call on citizens to be cautious when communicating online with unknown persons, especially when it comes to investment.

Indeed, investments in cryptocurrencies, although potentially profitable, are often risky, and there is also a significant danger of scams and hacker attacks.

Scammers use sophisticated methods to gain your trust and obtain confidential information or funds.

Never share confidential personal information, photos of personal documents, bank card details, one-time passwords, or other authorization data for bank transactions.

Installing unknown applications can also lead to the misuse of your data," warned the Croatian police.
