Horowitz meets Mektic: BiH is not a haven for terrorists, those returning from battlefields are prosecuted

Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektic met today in Sarajevo with the Deputy Ambassador of the USA to BiH Paul Horowitz, with whom he discussed the continuation of cooperation and strengthening of relations in the security sector. Special attention was paid to activities and projects implemented in the area of prevention and fight against terrorism, it was announced from the Ministry, reports the Patria agency.

Minister Mektic emphasized that security agencies are doing their job well and are achieving exceptionally good cooperation with partner agencies worldwide.

- BiH cannot be a haven for terrorists, and all BiH citizens who return to BiH from foreign battlefields will be prosecuted and placed under full supervision - said Mektic, adding that strengthening SIPA's capacities is planned and that amendments to the law and stricter sanctions for terrorist acts have been initiated.

Minister Mektic informed Deputy Ambassador Horowitz about activities on preventing violent extremism in BiH, where the USA provides significant assistance. Also, they discussed the implementation of projects in the field of border security and the signing of a readmission agreement regulating the return of persons illegally residing in the territory of one of the signatory states.
