(Patria) - Police in New South Wales have confirmed that 10 people were killed in a shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, including one attacker. The second attacker is in critical condition. One of the attackers is named Naveed Akram, born in 2001.
Emergency services confirmed that 18 people are in the hospital, and paramedics are still providing assistance to others at the scene. An event marking the first day of Hanukkah celebrations was taking place at Bondi Beach.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the scenes from Bondi Beach as "shocking and disturbing".
He confirmed that he had spoken with the Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police and the Premier of New South Wales (NSW).
"We are working with NSW Police and will provide further information as it is confirmed. Police and emergency services are on the ground working to save lives," he stated.
Footage being shared on social media shows one man approaching an attacker from behind and disarming him.
