(Patria) – Thousands of students are boycotting the first day of school in Hong Kong after another weekend marked by violent clashes between police and demonstrators.
High school students and university students gathered to, among other things, demand the government withdraw the controversial extradition bill.
Protests by Hong Kong residents against the bill, which is also supported by the Hong Kong government, have entered their 4th month.
Demonstrators threw petrol bombs and set fires on Saturday, while police hit them with batons. On Sunday, demonstrators disrupted transport links to Hong Kong Airport.
University students have announced a two-week boycott, while high school students have announced they will protest one day a week until their demands are met.
It is estimated that at least 9,000 students from 200 high schools will participate in the boycott.
