Hondo still fighting legal battle, charges against Đorđić after final verdict

Samir Hondo, who was acquitted on all counts of the indictment for war crimes by the Higher Court in Belgrade, is still fighting a legal battle, as the prosecutor has appealed this verdict, confirmed Hondo's lawyer Slaviša Prodanović for the Patria News Agency.

He stated that the prosecutor filed an appeal because he obviously still believes he is right. We remind you that Zoran Đorđić filed the report against Hondo, and Prodanović said that Đorđić must answer for perjury and that the prosecutor must file charges against him.

- Obviously, the prosecutor cannot suddenly reverse course now. The issue of charges against Đorđić will be relevant when we receive a final verdict from the Court of Appeal. If the prosecutor does not do so, we will file charges against Đorđić – Prodanović said.

Hondo's lawyer further stated that the prosecutor's appeal relies mostly on the claim that the defense used uncertified copies of the BiH Court's records.

- Our goal is to have everything concluded as soon as possible, because Samir is also entitled to compensation for damages due to his unjustified detention – Prodanović added.

Otherwise, the War Crimes Prosecutor's Office of Serbia accused Hondo of alleged torture, abuse, and inhumane treatment of Serb civilians in the Čelebići camp near Konjic. Hondo was arrested on March 20 last year at the Badovinci border crossing in Serbia and spent time in prison until November, when he was acquitted.
