Homs: At least 46 dead, dozens wounded in car bomb attack

At least 46 people have been killed and dozens wounded in a double car bomb attack in the city of Homs, in central Syria, reports the Patria news agency.

In a statement, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that most of the dead are civilians, and that the death toll could rise as there are many seriously wounded, reports the AFP news agency.

Syrian state television broadcast a video from the site of the attack in the Al-Zahra district, showing that the explosion sparked a fire and a large plume of smoke rising from the scene.

The explosions appear to have caused extensive material damage, as footage shows shattered shop windows and completely destroyed cars. Homs is almost entirely under the control of the Syrian regime forces and is often the target of bomb attacks, reports B92.
