Hollande: France is under threat of terrorism, state of emergency extended for three months

French President Francois Hollande, following the attack that occurred last night in Nice during the celebration of Bastille Day, in which more than 80 people were killed and hundreds injured, said that horror has once again struck France, reports Patria agency.

The attack was carried out by a young man who drove a truck with grenades onto the promenade and began to run over people, including a large number of children.

- We cannot ignore terrorist attacks, this is horror, we must do everything to fight this evil, Hollande added, confirming that the truck driver was killed.

He said it remains to be investigated whether the truck driver had accomplices.

- France was attacked on Bastille Day, a symbol of freedom. Fanatics oppose human rights, and that is why France is their target, said Hollande, calling for solidarity.

The French President said that the entire country is under the threat of Islamist terrorism and that everyone should be vigilant, on absolute alert. He announced the strengthening of security measures, and said that in cooperation with the prime minister and the ministers of police and defense, it was agreed that military and police reservists would be called up for service if necessary.

- We will extend the state of emergency, which was supposed to end on July 26, for three months, Hollande announced.

He also said that they will strengthen the activities of the French army, which is attacking jihadists in Iraq and Syria.
