Will the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline Project go through BiH?

In recent days, information has been present in the media that BiH has managed to secure its participation as a transit country in the planned regional Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline, which was allegedly agreed upon at a ministerial meeting in Azerbaijan, Baku, on February 22-23, 2017.

- The fact is that BH-Gas has on several occasions sent initiatives to the competent institutions emphasizing the importance and need for our country to be included in this project (an information was recently sent to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH within the preparation for the mentioned meeting). It is also a fact that during the preparation of the study for the IAP project, BiH's participation was not adequate, with more focus placed on the cancelled South Stream project, and the results of the study itself led to BiH being excluded as a transit country for the mentioned pipeline - say BH Gas.

They further state that BH-Gas did not attend the mentioned meeting in Baku (the conference was at the ministerial level), and therefore cannot confirm or deny that an official conclusion was reached that the pipeline route would pass through BiH territory, but that this was only proposed in the form of an initiative, according to the information available to us.

- BH-Gas welcomes the engagement of all participants in this process to secure a transit pipeline through BiH, but this must be in the form of an official agreement. BH-Gas, if it is able to sign a document by which the IAP route will pass through BiH, will do so, but in that case, such a document will be made publicly available and transparent.

On our part, BH-Gas is undertaking and will continue to undertake maximum efforts to achieve this strategic goal, and in that context, we will be at the service of official institutional efforts to achieve it - is the opinion of BH Gas.
