MOSTAR, (Patria) - The play "Who Killed Zvonko Bušić", based on the text by Croatian journalist Tihomir Dujmović, adapted by actor Robert Kurbaša, will be performed on Tuesday, May 15th in the large hall of the Croatian Home Stjepan Kosača in Mostar.
As part of the performance of this theatrical play, a promotion of the book "Who Killed Zvonko Bušić" by author Tihomir Dujmović will also be held. The program begins at 7 PM with the book presentation, followed by the play performance at 8 PM.
The play is organized by the Croatian Home Stjepan Kosača in cooperation with the Department for Culture and Sport of the Croatian National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Zvonko Bušić was born on January 23, 1946, in the town of Gorica in BiH. Bušić gained fame among the Croatian nationalist right not because he invented a cure for cancer or wrote a Nobel Prize-worthy work, but because, in alleged pursuit of the rights of the Croatian people, in September 1976, he hijacked a plane with 76 passengers on a flight from New York to Chicago to drop leaflets calling for Croatian independence from Yugoslavia. In addition to hijacking the plane, Bušić planted a bomb at the Grand Central subway station in New York, which killed a police officer upon detonation.
For his crimes, which the Croatian nationalist right considers a struggle for the liberation of the Croatian people, Bušić was sentenced to life imprisonment in the USA in 1977, but was pardoned and released in 2008.
He returned to Croatia, where he gave lectures about his "struggle for freedom", but in 2013, he committed suicide because Croatia did not become the country he dreamed of. He was buried in Zagreb in the Alley of Croatian Defenders.
