Hezbollah destroys Israeli surveillance cameras along Lebanese border

(Patria) - Lebanese Hezbollah announced that it has begun destroying surveillance cameras at several Israeli army outposts along the border, AP reported.

Hezbollah released a video showing snipers shooting and destroying surveillance cameras at five points along the Lebanon-Israel border, including one outside the Israeli town of Metula.

They appear to want to prevent the Israeli army from monitoring movements on the Lebanese side of the border after several days of cross-border fire that has killed at least seven people, including four Hezbollah fighters.

Since the attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on southern Israel on October 7, which killed more than 1,400 Israeli civilians and soldiers, tensions have been rising along the Lebanese-Israeli border. Hezbollah fighters have fired anti-tank missiles at Israeli army positions, and Israeli troops have shelled border areas on the Lebanese side of the border.

Israel and Hezbollah are bitter enemies who fought a war in the summer of 2006. Israel considers the Iran-backed Shiite militant group the most serious immediate threat, estimating that Hezbollah has about 150,000 rockets and missiles aimed at Israel. There is concern that the powerful Iran-backed Hezbollah could join the war with Israel.

Earlier on Monday, the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of people living in 28 communities near the Lebanese border.
