BEIRUT, (Patria) - The leader of Lebanese Hezbollah stated that this group and its allies will refocus on Palestine after, as he said, "victories elsewhere in the region".
Hassan Nasrallah called on Hezbollah's allies to adopt a "unified strategy on the ground" to oppose Israel.
Thousands of Hezbollah supporters took to the streets in Beirut, chanting "Death to America" and "Death to Israel," due to US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Hezbollah, a Shiite political bloc in Lebanon with a strong military wing supported by Iran, fought in Syria against rebels and the armed group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
Nasrallah said he hopes the "stupid American decision" will mark the "beginning of the end" for Israel.
Al Jazeera reports from Beirut that Nasrallah urged Hezbollah supporters to continue protests against the American move.
- Nasrallah described Trump's decision as another aggression against Palestine and said its goal is to deprive Palestinians of their rights.
Nasrallah called for protests last week, after the US President announced his decision.
Lebanon is home to over 450,000 Palestinian refugees, many of whom are descendants of those who fled after the creation of Israel in 1948.
- Since Hezbollah was founded three decades ago, Palestine has been their focus. However, the group lost popularity and legitimacy when it became involved in the war in Syria - Al Jazeera reports.
Hezbollah is believed to possess a large arsenal of rockets that can reach Israel.
Israel was at war with Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2006, which killed over 1,200 Lebanese, mostly civilians, and 120 Israelis, mostly soldiers.
Israel withdrew its forces from southern Lebanon in 2000, ending a 22-year occupation, but the two countries are technically at war.
