Hezbollah announced one of its commanders killed in Israeli strike on southern Beirut

(Patria) - Hezbollah announced after midnight that one of its commanders was killed, several hours after the Israeli army announced it had killed him in a strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut in which, as Lebanese authorities said, six people were killed, AFP reported.

In a statement, the Iran-backed group announced the death of "commander Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi", who "martyred on the road to Jerusalem", a term Hezbollah uses for fighters killed in Israeli attacks.

The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had "eliminated Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi, commander of the missile network of the terrorist organization Hezbollah".

The Lebanese Ministry of Health stated in a statement that "six people were killed and fifteen injured in an attack by the Israeli enemy on Ghobeira in the southern suburb of Beirut".

The Israeli army stated that Kobeissi commanded several missile units, including a precision-guided missile unit, and that he was hit along with other commanders of the missile forces.

"Kobeissi was an important source of knowledge in the field of missiles and had close ties to senior Hezbollah military leaders," the statement said.

Israeli army spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari told a media briefing that "at least two" other commanders of Kobeissi's forces were also "eliminated".
