Herzog: Israel ready for another humanitarian pause

(Patria) - Israeli President Isaac Herzog says Israel is ready for another humanitarian pause in the Gaza Strip to ensure the release of more hostages held in the territory, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The Israeli government is under increasing international pressure to agree to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where the number of civilian casualties and the scale of the severe humanitarian crisis are growing.

Israeli authorities are also under pressure from the domestic public to reach an agreement on the release of additional captives after Israeli soldiers mistakenly killed three Israeli hostages last week.

Last month, an agreement between Israel and Hamas, mediated by foreign intermediaries, led to a temporary pause in hostilities and the release of about 100 hostages in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

Until now, Israeli authorities have refused a new ceasefire, stating that it would only benefit Hamas, reports RSE.

- Israel is ready for another humanitarian pause and additional humanitarian aid to enable the release of hostages - said Herzog, whose role is largely ceremonial.
