Heroine of our streets - Zornić: We don't trust Schmidt, we are watching closely, ready for action

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The applicant to the European Court of Human Rights, who won a lawsuit against BiH due to discrimination in the electoral system, Azra Zornić, has been informally declared a street heroine in recent days because she was one of the leaders of civil protests against the imposition of discriminatory political changes to the Election Law. Today, after it became clear that the protests have at least temporarily succeeded, Zornić stated that she does not trust Schmidt and that they are watching his every move closely.  

"We absolutely do not trust him, because he is a vile scoundrel and is waiting for the moment to impose political changes to the Election Law before the elections or immediately after the elections, at the request of HDZ. We remain vigilant and ready for action at any moment," Zornić wrote, reacting to a Twitter post by political scientist Jasmin Mujanović, who wrote that all the events of the past few days are a turning point in the post-war history of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"For the first time ever, the joint efforts of the Bosnian public and the united front of pro-Bosnian parties have succeeded in stopping the OHR's decision in BiH. This is huge; popular legitimacy is now a factor in Bosnian politics. Second, Bosnian democratic activists and leaders have worked decisively with elected officials on both sides of the Atlantic to reprimand the OHR. This is an illiberal trick. They created a critical mass of opposition at home and abroad. This was political organizing 101 — and it worked. At home, the fact that ECHR applicants Dervo Sejdić and Azra Zornić led mass mobilizations of Bosnian citizens was crucial. Their principled, passionate, non-partisan leadership gave the protests a sense of an authentic struggle for basic civil and democratic rights."

We remind you that Schmidt today made a decision on amending the Election Law in the segment of election transparency and campaigning, while he left the political changes, at least temporarily, to the political leaders.
