Helicopters and Army Extinguish Fire Near Goražde

Yesterday (2 September) at 10:45 AM, citizens reported a fire at the location of MZ Berič in the municipality of Goražde. Due to strong winds, there is a risk of its spread, and assistance from the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been requested, reports the Patria news agency.

The Goražde Firefighting Unit, employees of the Bosnian-Podrinje Forests Public Enterprise, and the local population are engaged in extinguishing the fire.

During yesterday, the fire spread from low grass, driven by the wind, to a coniferous forest.

The spread of the fire that threatened facilities (clinic, houses, auxiliary buildings) in the settlement of Berič has been stopped, but it is advancing in other directions.

The Federal Civil Protection Administration, at the request of the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of the Bosnian-Podrinje Canton and the Civil Protection Service of the Goražde municipality, submitted a request to the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the engagement of members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Kosovo barracks (Ustikolina) and helicopters of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The engagement was approved, so 38 members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina and a helicopter that took off for Goražde at 8:15 AM this morning are already engaged in extinguishing the fire.

Teams of the Federal Civil Protection Administration are on the ground, monitoring the situation, and appropriate measures and activities will be taken in accordance with real assessments to localize the fire and minimize damage, the Federal Civil Protection Administration announced.
