HDZ official claims refugees are mass-raping in Zagreb, police urge: "do not fall for lies"

Deputy Mayor of Valpovo from the HDZ, Dubravko Kučinac, claims that in Zagreb there have been "about a dozen cases of emergency proceedings against refugees for attempted rape and robbery in the middle of the street".

In the form of "the truth that is being silenced", Kučinac spread on social media "news that no one dares to write about", concluding at the end that the situation is about to "explode".

Kučinac claims he received the information from a "friend who works at the court", reports the Patria news agency.

As Index writes, the Ministry of the Interior has not recorded an increase in criminal acts mentioned by Kučinac in his status in the last two days. Moreover, the police emphasize that recently more and more information has appeared that turns out to be false, including the news about the "infamous van" that kidnaps children. 

The police ask citizens not to fall for this information. 

"Due to the fact that there are currently about 14,000 migrants in the Republic of Croatia, a news story has begun to spread among citizens via social media and email that a large number of criminal acts committed by migrants have occurred in our area in the last few hours. False information is being cited about an increased number of rapes, attempted rapes, street robberies and child abductions," reads the official police statement published on the Ministry of the Interior's website, following an inquiry from Index. 

The police call on the public not to fall for these false and disturbing rumors, which aim only to raise panic and disrupt the normal way of life of citizens. 

"In the area of all our police administrations, no increase in criminal acts or misdemeanors has been recorded, nor any other incidents falsely cited here," the statement concludes.
