HDZ and Čović without comment on reserve police force in RS

SARAJEVO, (Patria) – All political parties in the Federation of BiH have called on the authorities in the BiH entity of Republika Srpska to abandon the formation of a reserve police force, stressing that politicians should work on implementing reforms that are essential for better living conditions for all citizens in BiH, rather than taking steps that cause unrest and fear.

Only HDZ and Dragan Čović did not join this appeal from the Federation.

Both the government and opposition in RS supported the Draft Proposal of the Law on Amendments to the Law on Entity Police, which entails the introduction of a reserve police force in that part of BiH, as well as the possibility of engaging police officers from other countries, with the issuance of false identities to both domestic and foreign police officers, which provoked strong reactions in FBiH.

From SDP, DF, SBB, SDA, GS, as well as Naša stranka, they called on political representatives from Republika Srpska to abandon the formation of a reserve force and to focus on economic and other reforms in the country.

BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektić also stated that he does not support the formation of a reserve force, recalling that the wars of the 1990s began precisely with the formation of similar reserve police units.

From DF, on Tuesday evening, they called on the OHR to provide an assessment, together with the European Commission, on the compliance of activities in RS with European legal acquis and practice, and in that sense, as stated, to stop the formation of a reserve police force in Republika Srpska.

Political parties in the Federation of BiH announced that if RS does not abandon the reserve force, the Federation will also take the same steps, in order to establish balance and preserve peace.

Academician, director and writer Gradimir Gojer sent an open letter to the OHR in which he reminds that international organization responsible for implementing peace in BiH that, in addition to military formations, the Republika Srpska police was also blamed and convicted for the genocide committed in Srebrenica, and that such a potential military formation cannot be allowed to have a “reserve force.”
