The president of the Association “Woman Victim of War” Bakira Hasečić told the Patria agency that she hopes the new Law on the Foundations of Social Protection, Protection of Civilian Victims of War and Protection of Families with Children will make it easier for women victims of war, and that it will encourage many women to report the horrors they survived during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
More than 20,000 women were raped during the conflict in the country from 1992 to 1995. Some women reported abuse, but some of them are still silent about it. A large number of men were also victims of sexual abuse during the aggression.
Hasečić expects that women from FBiH will finally get a commission at the FBiH level, instead of the Institute for Medical Expertise. This would bring multiple benefits to abused women.
It is also important for her that the procedure for recognizing victims of sexual abuse be simplified, so that women avoid giving new testimonies that remind them of traumatic moments.
The Association "Woman Victim of War" sends a message to surviving victims of rape and sexual abuse that it is high time to break the silence and report to the association by calling 033 658 879 or directly at the association's premises at Hamdije Čemerlića street, number 7.
