The Mechanism yesterday arrested Florence Hartmann at its seat in The Hague, acting on a previously unexecuted arrest warrant issued in November 2011 by the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
(ICTY), reports the Patria news agency.
The Trial Chamber of the ICTY in September 2009 found Hartmann guilty of knowingly and wilfully obstructing the administration of justice by disclosing information in a book published in 2007 and an article published in 2008, of which she was the author, deliberately disregarding an order of the Appeals Chamber. Hartmann was fined 7,000 euros.
The Appeals Chamber of the ICTY on 19 July 2011 upheld the findings of the Trial Chamber, but on 16 November 2011 commuted the fine, which had not yet been paid, into a prison sentence of seven days. As the institution succeeding the ICTY and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, the Mechanism has jurisdiction over all matters arising from cases
conducted before those international tribunals.
The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) was established by Resolution.
