Arrest of Chetnik Duke Tintor is a step towards the truth about crimes in Vogošća

The Institute for Research of Genocide, Canada (IGK) welcomes the arrest of Jovan Tintor, former advisor to accused Radovan Karadžić, accused of genocide and destruction of historical and cultural monuments, according to a statement, reported by the news agency Patria.

-During the aggression against RBiH, the former SDS financier and Chetnik duke Tintor was close to the political, military, and police leadership of the Serb aggressor. On May 2, 1992, in his capacity as president of the Crisis Staff of the Serb Municipality of Vogošća, Tintor issued an order placing the pension "Kon Tiki" in Vogošća at the disposal of the Serb police "for the interrogation of detained persons," thus marking the beginning of the genocide against the Bosniaks of Vogošća.

That decision was immediately implemented by Branko Vlačo, who was appointed camp manager, on Tintor's order. The worst crimes in Vogošća occurred in the camps "Kod Sonje" and "Bunker" in Vogošća, "Nakina garaža" in Krivoglavci, "Planjina kuća" in Svrake, the JNA barracks in Semizovac, as well as in human shields during Chetnik offensives on Žuč hill. All these crimes took place under Vlačo's direct command. Jovan Tintor was aware of the multiple rapes of women and girls in the pension, the inhumane treatment, and the murders of persons held in the bunker.

The arrest of Tintor, accused of genocide, can be a step towards the truth about the crimes in Vogošća and justice for the victims of these terrible, monstrous crimes. At the same time, this arrest can particularly shed light on the crimes in the infamous camp "Kod Sonje," in which former commander of UN peacekeeping forces in BiH, Canadian General Lewis MacKenzie, also participated. IGK has repeatedly informed and warned the world public about General MacKenzie's dishonorable role, which unfortunately has not yet been brought before any court in or outside of BiH.

During a recent visit to BiH, IGK members visited the "Kod Sonje" camp. They then stated that the facility of the former camp, where Bosniak women were raped, should be adapted into a museum that will serve as a permanent reminder that the most severe form of crime against women, the crime of rape, will never happen again to anyone, and especially that it will never again be used as a means to achieve aggressor-genocidal goals.

Rape during the aggression and genocide in BiH was an integral part of the aggressive genocidal strategy. The rape of a Bosniak woman is the moral murder of a Bosniak woman with lasting consequences. Brian Masse, a member of the Canadian Parliament and sponsor of two Resolutions on the Srebrenica genocide adopted by the Canadian Parliament, also visited the infamous camp "Kod Sonje," the statement reads.
