Arrests in SBK: Attempted to pass counterfeit banknotes in shops

Police in the SBK area conducted a successful operation arresting several individuals suspected of putting counterfeit convertible mark banknotes into circulation, reports the news agency Patria.

It all began on October 27 around 1:40 PM when citizens approached the police patrol of the Donji Vakuf Police Station and reported two unknown male individuals attempting to put a 100 KM banknote into circulation, which they suspected was counterfeit.

Based on the description of the individuals, the police patrol in the urban area found D.M., born in 1986, A.A., born in 1981, and E.Z., born in 1975, all from Vitez.

During the inspection, a total of 6 banknotes in denominations of 100 KM were found, suspected to be counterfeit, and the individuals were arrested. During the criminal investigation, it was discovered that A.S., born in 1980 from Zenica, could be linked to this criminal offense.

The duty prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina was informed, who obtained a warrant from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to search the apartments of the mentioned individuals. During the search, 21 more banknotes of 50 KM were found at D.M.'s residence, while with the help of officers from the MUP of ZE-DO Canton, during the search of A.S.'s apartment in Zenica, several torn banknotes in denominations of 20 and 50 KM were found, suspected to be counterfeit, and the suspect's computer was seized for expert examination.

During the search of his vehicle found in Vitez, officers of the Travnik Police Station found another 10 banknotes of 100 KM, suspected to be counterfeit.

During this operation, police officers learned that counterfeit banknotes with the same serial number had been put into circulation in the past few days in the areas of Novi Travnik, Vitez, and Busovača, specifically 100 KM banknotes with the same serial number – A9081919. Citizens are asked to inform the nearest police station if they notice banknotes with that serial number.

A report will be submitted to the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina against the suspects for the criminal offense of counterfeiting money, after criminal police officers from the Jajce, Travnik, and Kiseljak Police Stations complete the case, the MUP of SBK announced.
