In a terrorist attack on a hotel in the capital of Burkina Faso, for which al-Qaeda claimed responsibility, at least 30 people were killed, according to preliminary reports.
Firefighters have so far found 10 dead in the restaurant located right next to the luxury hotel, Minister Simon Compaore confirmed to AFP. However, it is not known exactly how many people were in the hotel, which has 147 rooms, at the time of the attack, the Guardian reports. Special forces literally took the hotel floor by floor, and it is not known if the attackers were killed.
Sixty-three people, including 33 wounded, were evacuated from the hotel while the attack by Burkina Faso security forces was still ongoing, who on Saturday attempted to free hostages from the hotel in the capital Ouagadougou, which was stormed by Islamist fighters.
Thirty people emerged from the hotel unharmed, and thirty-three wounded were also evacuated. Among the unharmed was the Minister of Labor, Clement Sawadogo, who was in the hotel at the time of the attack, said the Minister of Communications, Remis Dandjinou, as reported by AFP.
However, at the same time, terrorists attacked another hotel, Sky News reports. Terrorists attacked the Yibi hotel, and Al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for the attacks.
