Chaos Continues: KCUS Doctors to Stop Paying Medical Chamber!

At an extraordinary session of the Management Board of the FBiH Medical Chamber and the Executive Board of the Sarajevo Canton Medical Chamber, convened after recent events and mutual accusations between the Medical Chamber of Sarajevo Canton and the University Clinical Center Sarajevo (KCUS), it was decided that the regular Assembly of the KS Medical Chamber will be held at the end of November, that membership fees to the KS Medical Chamber must be paid immediately, and that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against doctors who have a license but have not paid their membership fees.

However, this morning, from KCUS, headed by Sebija Izetbegović, it was stated that KCUS employees who are members of the KS Medical Chamber consider Dr. Stevanović's actions an abuse of position. Only the President of the Chamber can represent the membership, not the President of the Management Board.

- Dissatisfied with the statements of the aforementioned doctor, as well as his untrue, unethical attacks on the work of KCUS specialists, members of the KS Chamber of Physicians have decided (and confirmed with their signatures) that they do not wish to pay membership fees to such a chamber.

Previously, KCUS had sent letters with questions to the President of the Chamber, prim. dr. Fahrudin Kulenović – a long-time retiree (13 years retired) – on multiple occasions, to which we never received an answer.

We asked simple questions:

What have you done to improve the status of doctors?
How is the money we pay being spent?
On what basis does Dr. Stevanović represent the Medical Chamber and evaluate the work of specialists at the tertiary level?

We particularly emphasize our dissatisfaction due to the violation of ethical and deontological principles by Dr. Stevanović, who is abusing the tragic deaths of our fellow citizens, making unsubstantiated accusations against colleagues from KCUS, and disturbing the public by spreading 'his view of the situation'.

We also inform the public that we are surprised by Dr. Stevanović's blackmailing rhetoric, threatening to revoke work licenses and close KCUS?

We assume that the competent investigative bodies, founders, and financiers of the largest healthcare institution in the country will address these serious threats.

Not all doctors employed at KCUS are members of the Medical Chamber. The Medical Chamber does not have a membership registry, so even those who do not pay the monthly membership fee of 10 KM pay the same license fee of 40 KM as those who pay regularly, and they receive their license.

In any case, members of the Medical Chamber have collected signatures and the required number for a formal request to convene an Extraordinary Assembly of the Medical Chamber and elect new management bodies.

This request will be sent to the Medical Chamber today.

Until the initiation of the new election procedure, KCUS doctors appeal to the members of the Management Board of the Medical Chamber, as well as the Presidency of the Medical Chamber, to stop spreading falsehoods and disturbing the public.

Doctors employed at KCUS are not only seeking their dismissal but also accountability for their work to date – stated in a press release from KCUS, signed by the Public Relations Service.
