Hamas claims Israeli operation ended with hostage's death

(Patria) - Hamas's armed wing released a video it claims shows the bloody consequences of a failed Israeli operation to free an Israeli hostage, the BBC reported.

In the footage, a man says he has been held for 40 days, suggesting the video may have been filmed in mid-November.

There is a lot of blood on the tiled floor, as well as military equipment that Hamas claims to have captured.

The video ends with images of a bloody body that appears to be the same hostage seen earlier.

An inscription in Arabic states that Israeli soldiers "failed to reach" the hostage, leading to his death, and that the Israeli team "quickly fled the scene." It is claimed that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) used an ambulance to reach the location where the hostage was held.

At a briefing on Friday evening, IDF chief spokesperson Daniel Hagari confirmed that two Israeli soldiers were seriously wounded during hostage rescue operations in Gaza.

He said that "terrorists involved in the abduction and holding of hostages" were killed, but said no hostage was freed. It is unclear whether he was referring to the same incident described in Hamas's video or something else.
