(Patria) - Hamas has accepted the US-proposed ceasefire plan for the Gaza Strip, TV network Al Arabiya reported today, citing a source in Hamas leadership.
According to the source, the American initiative envisages a cessation of hostilities in the enclave and the gradual return of displaced persons, reports RSE.
A Hamas delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo in a few days to discuss the details of the agreement.
The source stated that Hamas received an offer to extend the truce in exchange for the release of some of the hostages held in the Palestinian enclave.
As part of the proposal formulated by several countries, Hamas is to release minor hostages, as well as women and elderly Israelis held captive.
There is no information yet on whether the movement has accepted the initiative, nor have the countries involved in drafting the proposal been named. There are no official comments from Hamas for now.
Cairo hosted multilateral consultations on Gaza from March 3 to 7. However, the talks did not lead to an agreement between Hamas and Israel.
Al-Qahera al-Ekhbariya TV channel reported on March 7 that negotiations in Cairo would continue in a few days.
