(Patria) - Palestinian militant group Hamas announced it has released Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander and handed him over to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Israel confirmed that the 21-year-old Alexander has been freed.
Alexander was a member of a military unit stationed on the border with Gaza when Hamas militants captured him during the attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Hamas said Alexander's release was a "gesture of goodwill" aimed at reviving negotiations to end the war between Israel and Hamas, which has been ongoing for 19 months.
The release of the last surviving American hostage comes ahead of a visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to the Middle East, which begins today.
