Hamas says it is ready to implement ceasefire without new conditions

The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Wednesday that its negotiators have reiterated their readiness to implement an "immediate" ceasefire with Israel in Gaza based on a previous proposal by the United States without new conditions from any side, Reuters reported.

The Palestinian group stated that their negotiating team, led by senior official Khalil al-Hayy, met with mediators on Wednesday, including Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and head of Egyptian intelligence Abbas Kamel in Doha to discuss the latest developments in Gaza.

Negotiations have so far failed to reach an agreement to end the war. The protracted dispute includes control over the Philadelphi Corridor, a narrow strip of territory on Gaza's border with Egypt.

CIA Director William Burns, who is also the main US negotiator on Gaza, said on Saturday that a more detailed ceasefire proposal would be presented in the coming days.

A previous proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden in June outlined a three-phase ceasefire in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages.

The war in Gaza began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, killing 1,200 people and taking about 250 hostages. The Israeli offensive has so far killed at least 41,084 Palestinians and wounded 95,029 others.
