(Patria) - The dress worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1985 broke all fashion records for the price it achieved at auction in Hollywood - 11 times its estimated value.
The price of the black evening velvet dress exceeded one million dollars at the "Julien's Auctions" auction, i.e., it was sold for $1,148,080.
Previously, experts estimated that the dress, along with its accompanying illustration, would fetch a price of $100,000.
The dress was sold complete with shoulder pads, a blue organza ballet skirt, a large bow, and a sash.
This is Princess Diana's dress, which has so far achieved the highest price at auction ever.
Her eggplant-colored dress previously held the record, selling for $604,800 in January at "Sotheby's" auction house after a "fierce competition".
This means Diana's dress, designed by Jacques Azagury, has almost doubled the price difference between first and second place, Hina reports.
Diana first wore the dress in Italy in 1985 during a royal tour with her then-husband Charles, Prince of Wales. She wore it again in 1986 at a Symphony Orchestra concert in Vancouver.
The same Moroccan-British designer created her wedding dress in 1981. The ballet skirt, as an accessory to the evening dress, was in honor of the English National Ballet, of which Diana was a patron.
