(Patria) - By laying wreaths and flowers in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) of Tuzla Canton (TK) in Tuzla, followed by a ceremonial parade and addresses in Živinice, May 22 - Police Day of Tuzla Canton was marked today.
Director of the Police Administration of the MUP of TK, Dževad Korman, stated that the trend of equipping and investing in the police has continued compared to previous years.
- All of this has been ongoing for a year and a half, and it hasn't stopped. Through improving the material status, further equipping with uniforms, purchasing vehicles for daily use, specialized vehicles, and equipment.
By the end of the year, we intend to procure ballistic equipment that is currently outdated, as well as a number of other material and technical resources for equipping the police - Korman emphasized.
Prime Minister of TK, Irfan Halilagić, emphasized that the Cantonal government has recognized the importance of investing in police structures, all for the benefit of citizens, i.e., the safety of citizens and their property.
- Year after year, police structures in TK are becoming stronger and more organized. This is the result of their efforts and those who lead them, as well as the process we initiated last year with the aim of investing.
In two years, we have provided record funds, and this year we will see the effects of the investment. The safety of citizens and their property is important to us.
Last year, we allocated 15 million KM, and in this year's budget, we have secured 10 million KM for the Police Administration of the MUP of TK. Once all procedures are completed, we will see the effects in the second half of the year - says Prime Minister Halilagić.
President of the Assembly of TK, Žarko Vujović, believes that it is the obligation of the executive and legislative authorities to invest in the security sector, as it is a form of prevention, while the Minister of Internal Affairs of TK, Hajrudin Mehanović, outlines what will be realized in the coming period.
- In terms of equipping the police, we have largely completed the work; only the procurement of weapons remains, which has entered its second phase.
Our police, after the war, did not have significant premises to work in, and this year we have set two priorities: the procurement of land and the design of the building for the Police Administration in Živinice, and the procurement of the building for the Prosecutor's Office of TK for the needs of the Police Administration in Tuzla.
These are two procedures that will be completed this year. Also, these days we are installing smart cameras in the TK area. Numerous amendments to the Law on Police Officers will be determined by the Government of TK and sent to the parliamentary procedure - he said.
Police Day of Tuzla Canton, May 22, has been celebrated since 1997, when the Assembly of TK adopted the new Law on Internal Affairs.
