Hadžibajrić calls on the Federal Civil Protection Headquarters to close the airport, entrances and exits to KS

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Mr. Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, calls on the Federal Civil Protection Headquarters to urgently implement the measure of completely closing Sarajevo Airport and entrances and exits to Sarajevo Canton in order to combat the coronavirus and avoid the worst-case scenario in Sarajevo Canton and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Hadžibajrić also called for the hermetic closure of BiH borders, as recent examples warn us that more and more people are staying in BiH, whether infected or not, the Municipality of Stari Grad announced.

"We need to close Sarajevo International Airport as a matter of urgency. Unfortunately, information has reached me that a large number of infected people are arriving in our country. Passengers are 'catching' flights from Istanbul and coming to BiH, and some of them are infected. If this is true, then one of the urgent measures must be the closure of Sarajevo Airport and the ban on entering and leaving Sarajevo Canton," said Hadžibajrić.

Although air traffic has been reduced and significantly fewer planes are landing in Sarajevo, an example of abuse is also passengers who flew to Sarajevo from Doha, but Serbia banned them from crossing its border, even though they are citizens of that country.

"Unfortunately, the only way to limit the spread of the virus is to reduce all movement to a minimum and thus close the possibility of infected people entering. This is a scourge that we must stop before it starts claiming victims, and I think our greatest chance is prevention," stated Hadžibajrić.

He adds that he has ordered the urgent payment of one-time aid to the socially vulnerable, according to the decision previously made by the Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters of Stari Grad.

The competent service has prepared the lists, and the payment will start via giro accounts on Monday.

Municipal employees have been assigned today to urgently deliver one-time aid to the addresses of public kitchen users from this municipality who have minimal or no income.

Teams are already in the field, and it is expected that by the end of the day, this category will have received a one-time aid payment of 200 KM for the most essential supplies, food, medicine, disinfectants...
