Sarajevo City Council adopts 2015 Budget, alarming situation with financing

The Sarajevo City Council, at today's session, adopted by majority vote the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2015, in the amount of 12,047,639.00 KM, and the conclusions of the Committee for Social Affairs, and the Committee for Budget and Finance, which were supplemented with proposals presented at the session itself, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

All adopted conclusions are related to measures and activities that the City authorities will undertake to resolve the issue of adequate financing of the City of Sarajevo.

 

The City Council also adopted the Decision on the execution of the Budget of the City of Sarajevo for 2015.

It should be noted that the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Allocation of Public Revenues in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has entered into force, has brought the financing of the City of Sarajevo into question. This diminishes the importance of the City of Sarajevo as a unit of local self-government for its citizens, but also as the capital of the Federation of BiH. Both of these designations are constitutional categories in the FBiH, and they are being called into question. Thus, the City of Sarajevo, despite all measures and activities undertaken so far within its competencies, continues to find itself in an alarming situation.

The tranche that the Sarajevo Canton was supposed to pay to the City in the amount of 5,241,000 KM was never realized, and the same amount is planned for this year as well.
