Citizens can get a refund for healthcare services not provided at the Health Center

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Patients in the Canton of Sarajevo were forced in the past period, due to a lack of reagents in health centers, to obtain prescribed healthcare services from another health institution, which resulted in additional costs.

The Ministry of Health of KS has issued a notice that citizens, insured persons of the KS Health Insurance Fund, can get a refund for their costs incurred in such cases.

- In the past three years, the KS Health Insurance Fund has refunded the costs of patients with the basic health insurance package in such and similar situations, by submitting a referral with the opinion of the family doctor and a fiscal receipt for the service provided by the institution, which patients can still do," said the Minister of Health of KS, Amela Sofić.

She emphasized that this ministry will do everything to ensure that such situations occur as rarely as possible in the future and that timely healthcare services are provided to patients in public institutions.

In such situations, the KS Health Insurance Fund is obliged, ex officio, to obtain confirmation from the KS Health Center that a certain service could not be provided at that health institution, based on which the incurred costs are refunded.
