Grabar-Kitarović: Verdict against Karadžić as a permanent warning

ZAGREB, (Patria) – The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts (IRMCT) today imposed a life sentence on the former president of Republika Srpska, an entity in BiH, Radovan Karadžić for genocide and other crimes committed in BiH between 1992 and 1995.

Karadžić was found guilty of genocide, crimes against humanity, and violations of the laws and customs of war and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, stated that this is a verdict against one of the main ideologues and perpetrators of the Greater Serbia policy.

“Today’s decision is a final verdict against one of the main ideologues and perpetrators of the Greater Serbia policy, which did not shy away from genocide and other most serious international crimes against Croats and Bosniaks in order to create the so-called Greater Serbia. The verdict cannot bring back to life tens of thousands of victims and alleviate the pain of their families and survivors, but it must serve as a permanent warning about the destructiveness of that policy,” the Croatian president wrote on Twitter, reports Patria.
