Trump's Speech in Congress: America is Back, I've Just Begun

(Patria) - US President Donald Trump delivered his inaugural address to both houses of Congress, presenting the activities of his administration in the first 40 days and announcing further measures, calling the first month of his term the most successful in American history.

"The first month of my term is the most successful in history," Trump asserted, stating that George Washington's was the second most successful.

He said that six weeks ago, his inauguration "proclaimed the dawn of America's golden age." So far, there has been "nothing but rapid action," Trump said, adding that his administration has done more so far than others in a full four years.

"And I've just begun," he said.

"To my fellow citizens, America is back," Trump emphasized in his speech, to loud cheers and applause from Republicans. Over 1,000 decisions have been signed, this is a time for big dreams, said the US President.

Throughout Trump's address, Republicans in the Capitol rose to their feet, applauding and approving, while Democrats held signs that read "False" and "Musk is stealing."

Speaking about the rapid achievements of his administration in the first 44 days, Trump highlighted the issue of immigrants, stating that they "decided not to come after hearing my threats." "I sent the US military and border patrol to repel the invasion of the country's borders," he said, adding that "illegal crossings last month were by far the lowest ever recorded."

Trump recalled that he renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and declared English the official language of the USA.

He stressed that the "American dream is unstoppable" before continuing to boast about his election victory on November 5, which he called a "mandate unseen for decades" and stating that he won all seven swing states, which Republicans had not done for decades. Trump recalled signing an order recognizing only two genders, male and female, and banning transgender athletes from competing.

House Speaker, Republican Mike Johnson, ordered Democratic Representative Al Green to leave the chamber during the initial part of the session, stating that he had violated rules of decorum by standing during the speech and shouting.

In his speech, the US President boasted about lowering inflation and decreasing interest rates. He thanked Elon Musk, who was also in the chamber, for the cuts taken by the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) towards reducing government spending.

"Let's make America affordable again," Trump declared, promising to save the American economy. "Among my top priorities is to save our economy and offer relief" to working families, Trump said.

He blamed the previous administration, saying he inherited an "economic disaster and an inflation nightmare," adding that he is "fighting every day" to reverse it and "make America affordable again." He blamed his predecessor Joe Biden for the surge in egg prices, which have skyrocketed recently, saying they are "out of control" and that he is working hard to bring them down.

Trump pointed to the large deficit with Mexico and Canada, asserting that imposing tariffs on these two countries would boost the auto industry boom in the US. Canada and Mexico have "allowed fentanyl to enter our country at unprecedented levels," Trump said. The White House had previously stated that high tariffs imposed by the US on goods from Canada and Mexico are aimed at pressuring them to stop the flow of fentanyl and migrants into the US.

The US President also promised tax cuts for everyone and called on Democrats to vote for these proposed changes. Everything done in the first 40 days shows that we are working on the great liberation of America, Trump asserted, highlighting that the US has received $1.7 trillion in new investments "in just the past few weeks."

He advocated for restoring safety to American cities and for the safety of American police officers. He also called on Congress to pass laws to strengthen borders and announced the criminalization of gender reassignment.

Panama Canal, Greenland, Middle East, Ukraine...

"My administration will seek the Panama Canal, and we have already started working on it," Trump said, referring to the issue of taking over the management of the Panama Canal, which he had previously announced. According to him, a major American company announced today that it is buying both ports in the Panama Canal. He also announced the promotion of the shipbuilding industry.

"Tonight, I also have a message for the incredible people of Greenland: we strongly support your right to decide your own future," Trump said. "And if you decide, we want to welcome you to the United States of America," he said, stating that the US needs Greenland "for national security and international security" and that he thinks "we will get it one way or another."

Moving on to the Middle East, Trump said he is working on "bringing our hostages back from Gaza." He praised the Abraham Accords as a great success achieved during his first term and announced that "now we will build on those foundations." He added that people "haven't talked much" about the Middle East because the issue of Ukraine and Russia has emerged.

A small number of Democrats stood up and left the chamber when Trump spoke about Ukraine. Asserting that millions of Ukrainians have been killed and that the US has sent hundreds of thousands of dollars in aid, Trump said he wants the war to stop. He criticized Europe, stating that it has spent more money on Russian oil than on aid to Ukraine.

Trump quoted President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his announcement yesterday.

Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table, my team is ready, and we truly appreciate everything the US has done for us, Zelenskyy said after the talks broke down on Friday.

Ukraine is ready to sign an agreement on rare minerals, Trump said, asserting that it is time to stop the killing and talk to both sides.

Trump concluded his speech by invoking the courage and fighting spirit of his ancestors and, to ovations, promised an American flag on Mars.
