Golob: This is the worst natural disaster in our history, damage will exceed 500 million euros

(Patria) - Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob says that the storm that hit his country on Thursday is the worst natural disaster in Slovenia's history.

The storm affected two-thirds of the country, and the damage will likely exceed 500 million euros, STA reports.

- The efforts to return life to normal will be great - Golob said after a meeting of the National Security Council.

Road and energy infrastructure and residential buildings have been mostly damaged, the Slovenian agency writes.

Črna na Koroškem, a town in the north of the country, is still cut off from the world and is running out of drinking water and food, which is why essential supplies will be sent by air.

The Slovenian Prime Minister emphasizes that declaring a state of emergency is not necessary for now because, he claims, Slovenia has one of the better protection systems in Europe, and the civil protection system is also functioning.

He added that Slovenia has also been offered assistance from the international community, for which he expressed gratitude.
