Anniversaries: Fifth Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Formed

The Supreme Command Staff of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued an order for the formation of the Fifth Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 29, 1992. On October 21, 1992, by decision of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Decision No. 02-111-738/92), the Fifth Corps was formed.

The Fifth Corps included officers from the disbanded Una-Sana Operational Group, which comprised all infantry brigades, and parts of the reformed Bihać Regional Territorial Defense Staff, whose formations and responsibilities were reduced.

By the first order, Major Hajrudin Osmanagić was appointed corps commander, but this decision was revoked before he took office, so General Ramiz Dreković became the first corps commander. After General Dreković, General Atif Dudaković became the commander of the Fifth Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Fifth Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of a total of seven corps in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was formed in and around Bihać and managed to defend the city from the advance of Serbian forces. Battles were also fought against the secessionist forces of Fikret Abdić, who closely cooperated with the Serbian and Croatian military-political leaderships.

In the operation "Sana 95" in 1995, the Fifth Corps defeated Abdić's forces and liberated Velika Kladuša, defeated Serbian forces and liberated Bosanski Petrovac, Ključ, and Bosanska Krupa, and together with the Seventh Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, liberated Sanski Most.

The Fifth Corps of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina had 618 officers, 829 non-commissioned officers, and 8705 soldiers, totaling 10152 men.
