Anniversary of the crime in Štrpci: 20 people taken from the train and killed

The Association for Social Research and Communications (UDIK), in cooperation with the organization „Women's Voice – Priboj“, will organize a street action on Sunday, February 26, on the occasion of the anniversary of the suffering of civilians abducted from train 671 on the Belgrade – Bar route.

The action will be organized at Fra Grga Martić Square in Sarajevo starting at 12:00, and the following day activists will attend a commemoration in Prijepolje.

The crime called „The Štrpci Abduction“ occurred on February 27, 1993, when members of Serbian paramilitary units under the command of Milan Lukić, with logistical assistance from the state of Serbia, abducted a group of passengers from train 671 on the Belgrade – Bar route. On that occasion, 18 Bosniaks, 1 Croat, and 1 unknown person were abducted and subsequently killed. Most of the victims were citizens of Serbia and Montenegro. For this crime, Nebojša Ranisavljević was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and Milan Lukić to life imprisonment. Additionally, for the abduction of civilians from the train in Štrpci, who were killed in the Višegrad area, the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges 10 more individuals, and the trial is ongoing.

For the fourth year, UDIK reminds citizens of this crime, appealing to courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina to conclude the judicial processes and ensure the accused are held accountable for this horrific act committed against civilians.
