A year in prison: Emin Hodžić admitted to fighting in Syria and Iraq

The accused Emin Hodžić, born on 28 October 1992 in Sarajevo, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, fully admitted guilt for the criminal offense of organizing a terrorist group under Article 202d, paragraph 2, in conjunction with paragraph 1, all in connection with the criminal offense under Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced, as reported by the Patria news agency.

 

The accused Emin Hodžić (1992) fully admitted that he spent a certain period of time in the territory of Syria and Iraq within the structures of the so-called "ISIL", which was declared a terrorist organization by the UN Security Council.

By admitting guilt, the accused agreed to be sentenced to a prison term of one year, which he will serve in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The proposed sentence is in accordance with the role of the accused in the commission of this criminal offense, as well as his responsibility for the criminal offense he is charged with.

As part of the activities of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and partner law enforcement agencies in BiH and abroad, an increasing number of BiH citizens and family members are reporting irregularities related to the departure and stay of BiH citizens who are on foreign battlefields.

Also, a certain number of BiH citizens located in the territory of Syria and Iraq, due to unbearable living conditions, are contacting security agencies with the intention of returning to BiH, reaching a plea agreement, and serving their sentence in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH and partner security agencies have the capacity to detect and prosecute individuals who go to foreign battlefields, and warn BiH citizens not to take these steps, risking their own safety as well as a prison sentence upon return from those areas, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced.
