Former US President George W. Bush and former US First Lady Michelle Obama are surprisingly close given their political differences. The 43rd president explains that he particularly values the former First Lady for her sense of humor, writes Patria.
These two good friends have often been photographed together at official events. A photo of Michelle hugging Bush at the opening ceremony of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture last September set the internet on fire.
"When I first met her, it was a genuine expression of friendship," Bush told People magazine.
The former US president is once again in the public spotlight – he returned to promote his book "Portraits of Courage" about American military veterans.
The Bush and Obama couples held hands during an interfaith memorial service honoring the victims killed in Dallas during the July 12, 2016 incident.
Bush and Michelle often sit next to each other at formal events.
"She likes my sense of humor. I immediately like anyone who likes my sense of humor," Bush explains. "I can't remember where else I sat next to her, but I probably told a few good jokes that she liked. The Obamas are constantly surrounded by serious people. We liked each other immediately."
