George Clooney asked Biden to withdraw from the race for a new presidential term

(Patria) - American actor George Clooney, a fundraiser for Democrats in Hollywood, believes that Joe Biden is not the same person who won the White House in 2020 and that he should withdraw from the race for a new presidential term.

In June, Clooney hosted a fundraiser in Los Angeles, two weeks before the 81-year-old president's poor performance in a debate with Republican candidate Donald Trump.

"It's terrible to say, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at a fundraiser is not the same Joe 'face' Biden from 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden from 2020. He was the same man we saw at the debate.

Was he tired? Yes. Did he have a cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn't see what they saw," Clooney wrote in the New York Times.

A subsequent interview with ABC journalist George Stephanopoulos "only confirmed what we saw a week earlier," Clooney added.

"We will not win in November with this president. Besides, we will not win the House of Representatives, and we will lose the Senate.

This is not just my opinion, this is the opinion of every senator and representative in Congress and governor I have spoken with privately. Every single one, regardless of what he or she claims publicly," Clooney wrote.

Biden said he had a "bad night" at the debate, but promised to remain in the presidential race.

Clooney expressed admiration for Biden and said he considers him a friend.

"I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals. He has won many battles he faced in the last four years. But the battle he cannot win is the battle against time," Clooney added.
