(Patria) - Greenland has found itself at the center of international attention after US President Donald Trump again insisted that the United States take control of this Arctic island, not ruling out the use of force. From Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, residents clearly state that the island is not for sale.
On the streets of Nuuk, international journalists are recording citizens' dissatisfaction, while the Danish prime minister warns that this crisis could also threaten NATO unity. US Vice President JD Vance is meeting today in Washington with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Greenlandic Minister Vivian Motzfeldt regarding the status of Denmark's semi-autonomous territory.
Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated that the choice is clear: Denmark, NATO, and the European Union. Citizens, such as student Tuuta Mikaelsen, emphasize that they do not want to lose the benefits they have as part of Denmark, including free healthcare and education.
Trump cites security threats from Russia and China as the reason for taking over Greenland, but local residents and experts reject these claims, believing that the real motive is the island's natural resources and strategic position. Greenlandic officials state that it is unacceptable for one NATO member to consider taking over the territory of another ally without the consent of its population.
