(Patria) - All telecommunications services in the Gaza Strip have ceased as all energy sources maintaining the network have been depleted, announced major Gaza telecommunications companies Paltel and Jawwal.
The head of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees also said he fears for civil order in the Gaza Strip following the communications blackout, agencies reported.
“Gaza is again in a complete communication blackout, and... it is because there is no fuel,” UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini told a press conference in Geneva.
Palestinian telecommunications company Paltel confirmed the outage, saying on X, formerly Twitter, that they regret to announce “that all telecommunications services in the Gaza Strip have ceased, as all energy sources maintaining the network have been depleted, and no fuel is allowed to enter.”
Lazzarini said he is concerned that the communications blackout could increase panic in the Gaza Strip and erode the last vestiges of public order. The day after a previous communications blackout, “there were groups of hundreds of people who essentially entered our warehouse and took everything that was available,” he said.
“I believe there is a deliberate attempt to suffocate our operation and paralyze the UNRWA operation,” he said, citing the siege imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
