(Patria) - Very unusual white lines have appeared on the streets of Beaune, a town in western France, which at first glance look like they were drawn by a child. Their goal is to slow down traffic.
The mayor says it is a way to encourage drivers to slow down in an area where the speed limit should be 20 km/h, but where drivers sometimes exceed 50 km/h.
- This is a place of 1,700 inhabitants through which three main roads pass. People drive fast and we had to find a way to slow down the drivers. We wanted to do something to attract drivers' attention - said Jean-Charles Prono.
According to Euronews, the bizarre road markings have caused a lot of reactions in the local media and on social networks, and many are wondering if the city authorities are even allowed to do this, reports Jutarnji list.
Many social media users have criticized this move, with comments that the visual chaos will likely confuse drivers instead of making them drive slower.
