French Foreign Minister calls on Iran to stop destabilizing the Middle East

(Patria) - French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna told her Iranian counterpart on Saturday that "Iran and its proxies" must stop "destabilizing acts" that could cause a wider conflict in the Middle East amid the war in Gaza, AFP reported.

During a phone call with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-
Abdollahian, Catherine Colonna "delivered a very clear message - the risk of a regional fire has never been so great, Iran and its proxies must immediately cease their destabilizing acts," according to a statement on X.

"No one would win from an escalation."

The conversation followed Hezbollah's statement that it had targeted an Israeli base with 62 missiles as an "initial response" to the killing of Hamas deputy leader in Beirut.
Iranian state media reported on Saturday that 91 people were killed in a double bombing attack on Wednesday during a ceremony near the tomb of a senior Revolutionary Guard general, a higher number than initially reported after two victims died from their injuries.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, increasing fears of a wider conflict in the region.
In an earlier statement, Colonna said she also spoke with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

"Egypt and France are on the front line for access to humanitarian aid for Gaza and the evacuation of the most seriously wounded," she said on X.
